AACH Announces 2016 Board of Directors

Auguste H. Fortin VI, MD, MPH, FACP, FAACH, Director of Psychosocial Curriculum for the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program, Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and Director of Communication Skills Training, will begin his one-year term as President of the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare (AACH) in January 2016. 

ortin succeeds David E. Kern, MD, MPH, MACP, Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Kern will continue to serve as a member of both the AACH Board of Directors and the AACH Executive Committee as Past President. 

In addition, the AACH membership approved the appointment of one new officer and one new Executive Committee member for 2016: 

  • Jenni Levy, MD, FAACH, Medical Director of St Luke's Hospice in Bethlehem, PA, and core faculty for the Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care, as AACH President-Elect.
  • Craig Roth, MD, FACP, Co-Chief of General Medicine at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS), and Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School, will serve as AACH Vice President, Internal Education.

Three new Board members were approved by the membership to serve two-year terms:

  • Stewart Chang Alexander, PhD, Purdue University, Faculty Scholar Associate Professor; Public Health Associate Professor; Consumer Science Graduate Director;  Consumer Science Director; Health Disparities Research Lab
  • Judy Chang, MD, MPH, University of Pittsburgh, Assistant Professor, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences; Affiliated Assistant Professor, Division of General Internal Medicine; Core Faculty, Center for Research on Health Care; Assistant Investigator, Magee-Womens Research Institute; Junior Investigator, Magee-RAND Women's Health Initiative
  • Meg Gaines, J.D., LLM, Founder and Director, The Center for Patient Partnerships at the University of Wisconsin; Affiliate Clinical Professor, Department of Population Health, University of Wisconsin; Clinical Professor at University of Wisconsin Law School; Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Experiential Learning, University of Wisconsin Law School

Continuing Executive Committee members include: Francesca Dwamena, MD, MS, FACP, FAACH, Treasurer; Calvin Chou, MD, PhD, FAACH, AACH Vice President, External Education; Russell Rothman, MD, MPP, AACH Vice President, Research; and Elizabeth Ross, DPT, MMSc, AACH Vice President, Membership.

Continuing board members include:
Nan Cochran, MD, FAACH, Raymond Curry, MD, FACP; Denise Davis, MD, FAACH; Michael Farrell, MD, FAACH; Orit Karnieli-Miller, PhD; and Peter Weissmann, MD, FACP, FAACH.

Representing the European Association for Communication in Healthcare (EACH) as an ex-officio, non-voting board member is Myriam Deveugele, PhD, EACH Past President. EACH is the sister organization to AACH.

The Board of Directors is the governing body of AACH and represents the interests of the AACH members in directing the business of the Academy.
